The Final Court of Appeals in Michigan

The Michigan Supreme Court sits as the highest Michigan state law court. It’s purpose mainly is to decide appeals from the Michigan Court of Appeals. Presided over by seven elected judges, the Michigan Supreme Court generally has the final word in the law.

Handling Supreme Court Cases

We know firsthand what it is like to win in the Michigan Supreme Court. Jim Amberg recently won his own case in Amberg v Dearborn, where the Michigan Supreme Court overturned the trial court and court of appeals, finding favorably for Jim in a heated freedom of information act case. When a case is taken to the Michigan Supreme Court, it is very important to present the arguments in a way that brings the central issues to the forefront. Simply put, the Michigan Supreme Court will not make your arguments for you.

Appeal Strategy in your Felony Criminal Case

The Michigan Supreme Court has gone from being an unreasonably “tough on crime” court to a court that is now quite fair. The judges in the Michigan Supreme Court are not afraid to follow the law, even if that means ruling against proscutors. This is the way the law should operate, and because of this, many times we will file applications in the Supreme Court in cases where we think we should have won.
